BRAC University receives bomb threat by email
University files GD with Badda Police Station.
A bomb threat has been sent to BRAC University through email, prompting the university authorities to file a general diary (GD).
The email was sent on Sunday evening (4 October). The university later filed the GD with Badda Police Station under the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), confirmed Md Asaduzzaman, assistant commissioner of DMP's Gulshan Division's Badda Zone.
University authorities said the email was sent from the email ID TypicalChineseman@gmail.com. Addressed to BRAC University, the sender threatened to carry out a "mass bomb attack" at the university at around 11am on 6 October.
The message said, "I will carry out a mass bomb attack at BRAC University, located at Kha-224, Pragati Sarani, Dhaka 1212, Bangladesh. So, if you see my face, know that none of you will be able to stop what is about to happen. The attack will take place tomorrow, 6 October, at approximately 11am."
Asaduzzaman said, "Initially, we learned that the email was sent from the US. There is no reason to be concerned about the matter. Police have also been deployed at the university, and the deployment will be increased."
He said the matter is being investigated by Badda police, the Detective Branch (DB) of police and other intelligence agencies.
Meanwhile, BRAC University's public relations department issued a written statement saying the university had received an anonymous email containing the threat.
"We are taking the matter very seriously. We have already informed the law enforcement agencies and are receiving all necessary assistance from them. At this moment, the safety and security of all members of the BRAC University community, including our students, teachers, officers and employees, remains our highest priority," it said.
