'Moving forward': Pritom and Shahtaj announce divorce

Musician Pritom Hasan and actor Shahtaj Monira Hashem have mutually decided to end their marriage after 10 years together.

Both announced the decision through social media posts on Sunday night (4 October), saying they reached it after thoughtful consideration.

"Pritom and I have mutually and amicably decided to end our marriage after ten years together," wrote Shahtaj, also a prominent model and influencer. Pritom, who is also an actor, shared an identical statement, with his name replacing Shahtaj's.

They said they remain grateful for the memories they shared and continue to care for each other, but realised over time that they were "simply better off separate ways due to lack of mutual understanding."

Both said the decision was made with the support of their families and that they are now moving forward with a divorce.

They also requested their friends, colleagues, and the media to respect their privacy during the transition.

"We kindly ask our friends, colleagues, and the media for privacy and grace during this transition so we can navigate this next chapter," read the statement.

They concluded by thanking everyone for their understanding and support.

Pritom, the youngest son of the late legendary singer Khalid Hassan Milu, and Shahtaj grew close after working together nearly 10 years ago.

Shahtaj appeared as a model in the music video for Pritom's popular song "Jadukor". They met while working on the song in 2017, and their relationship later turned romantic.

After being in a relationship for several years, Pritom and Shahtaj got married on 28 October 2022 at a hotel in Sreemangal, in the presence of members of both families and close friends.

After their marriage, they shared moments from their life on social media at different times. As recently as January this year, Pritom and Shahtaj were seen together at the wedding ceremony of Xefer Rahman and Rafsan Sabab.

However, people close to the couple recently said their relationship had not been going well for some time, with some even hinting at the two separating.

Ultimately, both publicly announced on Sunday night that they had decided to end their marriage.
