National University signs MoU with Sheraton and Westin on tourism and hospitality
National University has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Unique Hotel and Resorts, the operator of Dhaka's five-star hotels Sheraton and Westin, to strengthen training and collaboration in tourism and hospitality management. The agreement was signed on 1 September at the Sheraton Hotel in Dhaka.
Under the MoU, Sheraton and Westin will provide the National University with specialised training and support in tourism and hospitality. This collaboration is part of the university's ongoing initiative to ensure career-oriented training alongside modern education by partnering with both domestic and international organisations.
Speaking as chief guest, National University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr ASM Amanullah stressed the importance of industry-academia linkages to address unemployment and enhance students' career prospects. He noted that demand for tourism and hospitality professionals is growing in Bangladesh and abroad, adding that with proper training, graduates will be able to compete with dignity in the global market and even emerge as entrepreneurs.
Unique Hotel and Resorts CEO Shakhawat Hossain, attending as special guest, highlighted the need for developing skilled human resources to strengthen the country's economy. He assured full cooperation in preparing National University students to become skilled professionals.
Others present at the signing ceremony included Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Nurul Islam, Acting Dean of the Centre for Postgraduate Education, Training and Research Prof Dr Md Abuddarda, Media Adviser of the Public Relations Office Gautam Barua, Acting Director of the International Desk Raj Bin Kashem, Chairman of the Academic Committee (Business Studies Group) Sheikh Muhammad Mujahidul Islam, and senior officials of Unique Hotel and Resorts.
