Only 10% NU graduates enter industry each year: VC Amanullah
"The lack of effective collaboration between academia and industry is pushing many graduates out of the formal job market," he said.
Only about 10% of National University graduates enter the industrial sector each year, mainly due to weak linkages between academia and industry, Vice-Chancellor ASM Amanullah said on Thursday (30 January).
Despite being the world's second-largest university and producing nearly one million graduates annually, National University continues to struggle to equip students with industry-relevant skills, Amanullah said while speaking at a seminar titled "Access to Finance Towards Opportunities: Financing Digital Devices for Students to Build an Intelligent Society," at the Bangladesh China Friendship Conference Centre (BCFCC) in Agargaon.
Amanullah said limited access to digital devices has further widened the gap between education and employment, stressing that improved access to technology could significantly enhance graduates' employability and economic contribution.
"The lack of effective collaboration between academia and industry is pushing many graduates out of the formal job market," he said.
Bangladesh Computer Samity (BCS) President Mohammad Zahidul Islam presented the keynote paper at the event, highlighting the need to expand smart device usage to support national development and the transition to Smart Bangladesh.
The seminar was chaired by Mahatab Uddin Ahmed, founder and managing director of BuildCon Consultancies Limited.
Additional Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division Alif Rudaba, World Bank Digital Development Specialist Suparna Roy, ICT Division Additional Secretary Mohammad Anwar Uddin, Axentec PLC Managing Director and CEO Adil Hossain Nobel, and physician and media analyst Abdun Noor Tushar were present at the event.
