A Dhaka court has issued a travel ban on 15 individuals, including former textiles and jute minister Golam Dastagir Gazi, his wife Hasina Gazi, and former prime minister Sheikh Hasina's adviser Salman F Rahman, amid ongoing corruption investigations.

The order was passed today (8 July) by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib in response to three separate petitions submitted by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Others restricted from traveling abroad include Salman F Rahman's son Ahmed Shayan Fazlur Rahman; former IFIC Bank director and former Sylhet City Mayor Md Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury; Director of Serve Construction and Engineering BD Sarwat Sultana Monami and Managing Director Monirul Islam; former IFIC Bank Managing Director Md Shah Alam Sarwar; ex-director Rabeya Jamali; RAM Nazmus Saqib; Kamrun Nahar Ahmed; Zafar Iqbal; Deputy Managing Director Shah Md Mainuddin; Nurul Hasnat; and Beximco Group Deputy Manager Kaushik Kanti Pandit.

According to a petition submitted by ACC Deputy Director Yasir, a case is currently under investigation against Salman F Rahman and others, including Monirul Islam, regarding alleged embezzlement of funds from IFIC Bank's Principal Branch under the guise of loans.

The ACC argued that there is credible information suggesting the accused may flee the country, thereby hampering the investigation. Hence, a ban on foreign travel is essential for the sake of a fair and uninterrupted investigation.

In two separate petitions, ACC Assistant Director Mohammad Zulfikar requested travel bans for Golam Dastagir Gazi and his wife Hasina Gazi, which the court also granted.
