A Dhaka court barred the former principal secretary to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), Abul Kalam Azad, from travelling abroad in connection with an ongoing Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) investigation.
The order was issued by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz today (23 February) following an application filed by the ACC, according to Md Riaz Hossain, bench assistant of the concerned court.
On behalf of the ACC, Assistant Director Md Nasrullah Hossain submitted the application seeking restrictions on Azad's overseas travel.
According to the application, Azad is under investigation over allegations of various irregularities and corruption.
It stated that there is a possibility he may attempt to leave the country and that restricting his foreign travel is necessary to ensure a fair and proper investigation.
Notably, Abul Kalam Azad was arrested from Dhaka's Dhanmondi area on 5 October 2024 and has been in custody since then.
