The University of Chittagong is set to host the fifth edition of the SCLS National Law Olympiad 2025 on 11-12 July, centring on the theme "Environmental Law and Climate Justice."

The event is being organised by the Society for Critical Legal Studies (SCLS), a student-led platform run by law students of the university.

Recognised as one of Bangladesh's most prestigious legal competitions, this year's Olympiad comes amid growing global concern over climate change and environmental degradation.

According to a press release, the event aims to critically engage future legal professionals in conversations around climate justice, ecological challenges, and the role of law in building sustainable futures.

Out of over 70 teams that registered for the Olympiad, 40 top-performing teams from 30 universities across the country have been shortlisted to participate in the two-day event.

The competition will feature five intellectually stimulating rounds - Pictorial Plea, Rebellious Spirit, Critical Eye, Reform Assembly, and the Symposium Round -each designed to foster legal analysis, critical thinking, and debate-driven problem-solving around eight key legal and environmental agendas.

The opening ceremony will be inaugurated by the Attorney General for Bangladesh, Md Asaduzzaman, as the chief guest.

A distinguished panel of judges comprising jurists, legal scholars, practising advocates, researchers, and policymakers will assess the rounds to ensure high academic and professional standards throughout the Olympiad.

The event is being supported by national and international sponsors. RANCON Group is serving as the principal sponsor, with Mitsubishi Motors, Suzuki Motorbikes, RANCON Development, RANCON FC Properties, Sonali Bank PLC, Law Valley, NRB Bank, and BSRM as co-sponsors.

This year's Olympiad continues to serve as a cornerstone for nurturing Bangladesh's next generation of legal minds. With its focus on climate justice and environmental law, it promises not only a showcase of talent and intellect but also a meaningful contribution to the ongoing global discourse on law and the climate crisis.
