Authorities at Chattogram Shah Amanat International Airport have seized a consignment of electric cigarettes and related accessories from a passenger arriving from Abu Dhabi.

A total of 20 electric cigarettes, 490 bottles of cigarette refill liquid, 280 cigarette cartridges, and 30 cigarette coils were recovered from Mohammad Ayub, a resident of Satkania, who arrived on US-Bangla Airlines flight BS-350 this morning (22 June).

Mohammad Ibrahim Khalil, the airport's public relations officer, said Ayub collected his luggage from the baggage belt and attempted to pass through the green channel without declaring the items.

Acting on a tip-off, the airport's NSI team intercepted him and searched his belongings at around 7:10am, recovering the undeclared goods.

The estimated market value of the seized items is Tk10.73 lakh, including Tk40,000 for the electric cigarettes, Tk8.33 lakh for the refill liquids, Tk1.40 lakh for the cartridges, and Tk60,000 for the coils.

As this was the passenger's first offence, the goods were confiscated and Ayub was released after legal formalities, Mohammad Ibrahim Khalil said.
