Visitors barred from terminal driveway at Chattogram airport ahead of national election
The authorities of Chattogram's Shah Amanat International Airport have banned the entry of visitors into the terminal driveway and restricted access for protocol personnel of very important persons (VIPs), citing security concerns ahead of the upcoming national election.
The decision was taken at the airport security committee's monthly coordination meeting, considering the overall security situation in the country and the airport's status as a first-category key point installation (KPI), according to a press release issued by airport authority on Tuesday.
Under the new measures, entry into the terminal driveway will remain completely prohibited for all types of vehicles and individuals other than passengers until further notice. Vehicles carrying passengers have been instructed to enter the main parking or cargo parking areas directly to allow boarding and disembarking.
The airport authority has also announced that, until further notice, no parking toll will be collected from vehicles entering the main parking area solely for the purpose of dropping off passengers.
In addition, access related to VIP protocol has been further tightened. State VIPs who are entitled to use the airport's VIP lounge, along with their family members, will be allowed to be accompanied by a maximum of one authorised person during arrival or departure. The authorised individual must present a valid protocol pass to gain entry.
The airport authority has urged all concerned to cooperate fully to ensure passenger services and maintain overall security at the airport.
