Chattogram Metropolitan Police arrested an armed robbery suspect and recovered a pistol and ammunition looted from a police station in Chattogram from his possession in the early hours of Today (19 June) from Rani Rashmoni Ghat area in the city.

The arrested was identified as Saedur Rahman Masum, alias "Blade Masum" (28) son of Md Abul Kalam, hailing from Pahartali area in the city.

The arrest was announced during a press briefing held at the CMP's city police headquarters this afternoon, where Deputy Police Commissioner of CMP's West Zone, Hossain Mohammad Kabir Bhuiyan, briefed the media about the arrest and the recovered items.

According to police, Masum was apprehended around 12:50am during a routine check at a police checkpoint set up under the Rani Rashmoni Ghat Overbridge in the Jelepara area.

When he was spotted walking toward the Sagorika Road intersection and appeared suspicious, officers signaled him to stop.

As he attempted to flee, police chased and arrested him.

Upon searching the suspect, officers found a black holster with a 7.62mm pistol tucked into his belt. They also recovered four rounds of live ammunition loaded into a magazine and one additional empty magazine.

Deputy Commissioner Bhuiyan stated that during initial interrogation, Masum confessed to acquiring the weapon and ammunition from a group of criminals involved in the 5 August attack, arson, and looting incident at Pahartali Police Station.

He allegedly kept the weapon and used it for various robberies and muggings throughout the city.

Masum and his unidentified accomplices reportedly targeted pedestrians, tourists, passengers, and goods vehicle drivers in areas including Pahartali, Toll Road, Patenga Beach, and the port zone — robbing them under threat of firearms.

Authorities also confirmed that he has a prior criminal record, including a case involving preparation for robbery.

The CMP has stated that further investigations are ongoing to track down Masum's associates and dismantle the wider criminal network he is allegedly a part of.
