Ten individuals were arrested with illegal arms, ammunition and narcotics from a suspected terror hideout in the Bahaddarhat area of Chattogram today (22 July).
Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of Chandgaon Police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-7) conducted a raid around 3pm at a flat located above the Bahaddarhat fish market, said a press release from Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP).
The arrestees were identified as Borhan Uddin, 30, Shastra Majumder, 20, Al Amin, 25, Maruf, 18, Mizanur Rahman, 32, Rokon Uddin, 29, Antor, 22, Khar Pal, 21, Rahat, 18, and Forhad, 24.
During the drive, law enforcers recovered firearms, sharp weapons, torture equipment, locally-made liquor, marijuana, beer cans and drug packaging materials from the spot.
According to CMP, the flat was being used as a torture cell and operations base by Shahidul Islam alias "Buisya", a known armed criminal who has been operating in the city's underworld.
Police said Shahidul and his associates had brandished firearms in a show of force in the Faridar Para area under Chandgaon Police Station on Sunday (21 July), firing shots in public to establish territorial dominance.
Following the incident, law enforcers launched the raid and detained ten of his alleged close accomplices. All of them, according to police, have prior criminal records and are involved in a range of crimes including extortion, drug trafficking and robbery across the city.
However, the main accused Shahidul remains at large, police added.
