The Detective Branch (DB) of Bogura Police have arrested six members of a teen gang in connection with an attack on three people, including two journalists, in the district's Jailkhana intersection area on 5 April.

"The arrests were made on Sunday night (6 April) during an operation in the city's Banani area," District DB Inspector Rakib Hossain told The Business Standard today (8 April).

"Two Burmese knives, two motorcycles, and three mobile phones were recovered from the suspects' possession. CCTV footage and intelligence operations led to identifying and capturing the attackers," he added.

The arrestees are Rakibul Islam Rakib, 22, Habibur Rahman Rocky, 25, Tarikul Islam, 22, Jisan Khan, 21, Jihad, 20, and Tutul, 20.

The inspector further said the arrested suspect Rakibul has two prior cases related to murder and drugs, while Habibur is facing six charges, including arms possession, attempted murder, and robbery. "All six have been sent to jail through court."

According to police sources, the attack occurred around 3:30pm near a juice bar in the Jailkhana intersection area on 5 April. The victims are Khorshed Alam, northern bureau chief of The Business Standard, Asafudoula Neon, staff correspondent at online portal Bogura Live, and Taufiqul Islam Nirab.

Khorshed and Neon received medical treatment at Bogura 250-bedded Mohammad Ali Hospital, with visible injuries to the head, eyes, and hands.

Journalist Khorshed said, "We had just stepped out of the juice bar when around 12–14 youths suddenly surrounded Neon. When I intervened, they started punching me in the head. One of them pulled out a knife, and when Neon tried to protect me, they beat him brutally."

Neon later filed a case with Bogura Sadar Police Station naming eight individuals and listing 12 others as unidentified suspects.
