Shipping Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam has expressed deep solidarity in a video message addressed to the sailors of the Bangladesh Shipping Corporation's national flag carrier vessel MV Banglar Joyjatra, currently engaged in international maritime operations.
Expressing hope for an early improvement in the emerging crisis situation, the minister said in the video message that the sailors aboard the vessel, which is presently stationed at Jebel Ali Port in the United Arab Emirates, carrying a steel cargo from Qatar, have demonstrated remarkable courage, patience and professionalism amid the ongoing conflict, according to a press release issued today (2 March).
The minister further said that contact has already been established with the families of all 31 sailors on board and that the government stands by them during this difficult time.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is personally monitoring the situation of the sailors and is providing necessary guidance and directions through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he said.
In addition, the Bangladesh Shipping Corporation is maintaining regular communication with the vessel through virtual meetings, Rabiul added. "We have formed a special control cell at the BSC headquarters in Chattogram to provide necessary support to the sailors and their families."
In his video message, the minister added, "To maintain the crew's morale, we have ensured improved quality food and essential supplies through additional provisions. The Bangladesh Embassy in Dubai has been informed and is maintaining round-the-clock communication. We have also kept local agents and expatriate Bangladeshi entrepreneurs prepared to extend assistance if required."
He called on the sailors to remain strong and maintain their morale, assuring them that the government and the Bangladesh Shipping Corporation firmly stand by them and their families and will continue to extend full support.
Rabiul noted that their steadfastness in fulfilling the noble responsibility of contributing to the national economy is highly valued by the government and a matter of pride for the nation.
He expressed optimism that the crisis would be overcome through collective efforts.
