Actor Zaher Alvi sued over wife Ikra's death
Alvi’s mother, Shyuli, and his alleged girlfriend and co-actor, Tithi, have also been named as accused in the case.
A case has been filed against actor Zaher Alvi in connection with the death of his wife and social media influencer Afra Ibnat Ikra, whose body was recovered from a residence in the capital's Mirpur yesterday (28 February).
Ikra's family filed the case at Pallabi Police Station last night (28 February), accusing Alvi of abetment to suicide.
Alvi's mother, Shyuli, and his alleged girlfriend and co-actor, Tithi, have also been named as accused in the case, AKM Alamgir Jahan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Pallabi Police Station, said today (1 March).
Speaking to The Business Standard, the OC said, "Ikra's maternal uncle, Sheikh Tanvir Ahmed, filed the case alleging abetment to suicide. Her husband Alvi has been made the prime accused, while his mother and alleged girlfriend Tithi have also been accused."
He added that Ikra's body has been handed over to her family after the completion of an autopsy.
Family sources said Ikra was laid to rest in her ancestral home in Bhaluka, Mymensingh, following funeral prayers this afternoon.
Yesterday, around 1:30pm, Ikra's relatives found her body hanging inside a residence in Mirpur DOHS and rushed her to Kurmitola General Hospital. Police later recovered the body from the hospital.
Later, in a social media post, Alvi confirmed his wife's death, describing the news as devastating and saying he has been unable to speak properly since learning of it.
He urged well-wishers and journalists to respect the family's privacy and refrain from spreading misinformation, particularly for the sake of their eight-year-old son.
He added that he was attempting to return to Dhaka as soon as possible, as he was currently in Nepal for Eid drama shooting.
However, the post was later deleted.
Alvi and Ikra got married in 2010.
