The local administration, with the help of law enforcement agencies, has taken special initiatives to keep the Cumilla-Chattogram section of the highway free from traffic congestion, ensuring a smooth journey for Eid holidaymakers ahead of the upcoming holy Eid-ul-Fitr.

Cumilla Deputy Commissioner Md Amirul Kaysar stated that the district administration has implemented measures to keep 12 hotspots along the 104-km Cumilla-Chattogram highway free from traffic congestion, ensuring safe travel for people during Eid.

At a meeting of the Road Safety Committee, instructions were given to ensure that traffic flow on highways across Cumilla district remains unhindered during the Eid travel period.

Special emphasis will be placed on road monitoring from 27 March to 28 April in preparation for Eid-ul-Fitr.

As the 104-km section of the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Cumilla is considered the lifeline of Bangladesh's economy, the administration is committed to eliminating traffic congestion on Cumilla highways ahead of Eid.

Regarding this, Highway Cumilla Region Police Superintendent Md Khairul Alam said, "We are coordinating with all departments to keep the highways safe and traffic smooth during Eid."

The identified hotspots include Gouripur Bazar, Elliotganj Bazar, Balda Khal, Gomti Meghna Bridge toll point, Shahid Nagar, Madaiya Bazar, Chandina Bagur Bus Stand in Daudkandi upazila, Nimsar Bazar in Burichang upazila, Mainamati Cantonment Mor, Alekharchar, Paduar Bazar Bishwa Road, Suagazi Bazar, Kotbari U-turn in Sadar Dakshin upazila, Chauddagram Bazar, Chiora Bazar, Mia Bazar, Baburchi Bazar, and Kangshanagar Bazar on the Cumilla-Sylhet Highway.

"We have taken proactive measures at the 12 points on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway identified as hotspots. Illegal structures on both sides of the highway are being demolished," Khairul Alam stated.

He also mentioned that the police administration has deployed most of its personnel for highway security at night to ensure passengers can reach their destinations safely.

Additionally, volunteers, student representatives, community policing members, and Rover Scout members will be deployed along the 105-kilometer stretch of the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Cumilla to facilitate a smooth Eid journey.

After visiting several areas in the district, BSS's Cumilla correspondent observed that the district administration and police are working diligently to identify road and highway issues and resolve them promptly.

The primary causes of traffic congestion on the Cumilla-Chattogram section of the highway include the movement of three-wheelers, vehicles driving in the wrong direction, illegal parking, unauthorized CNG stands, the entry of local vehicles onto the highway, random pedestrian crossings, illegal roadside structures, and slow processing at toll plazas.
