Voter turnout may exceed 60% in 13th national election: EC Masud
There is a festive mood surrounding the vote, he says
Election Commissioner Abdur Rahmanel Masud has expressed optimism that voter turnout in the 13th national election could surpass 60%, citing a festive atmosphere across the country.
Speaking to The Business Standard, the commissioner said turnout is unlikely to fall below 60% and may even exceed that figure.
"There is a festive mood surrounding the vote," he said, adding that enthusiasm is particularly visible among young voters.
According to the Election Commission, the country has 127,711,793 registered voters. Of them, 64,825,361 are male, 62,885,200 female, and 1,232 transgender. Voting will take place at 42,779 polling centres nationwide.
The EC Secretariat said ballot papers and other election materials, along with polling officials and law enforcement personnel, have reached all centres for both the parliamentary polls and the referendum.
A situation report compiled until 8:20pm tonight (11 February) stated that the overall law and order situation at polling centres and surrounding areas remains normal.
Voting in 299 constituencies will be held from 7:30am to 4:30pm tomorrow without break.
