Boeing deal covers purchase of 14 new aircraft.
Biman Bangladesh Airlines plans to expand its fleet to 47 aircraft by 2035 under its long-term growth strategy, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam said today (18 June).
To achieve the target, the national carrier has signed an agreement with Boeing to purchase 14 new aircraft, she said in a written reply to a question from Chattogram-13 lawmaker Sarwar Jamal Nizam during the question-answer session in parliament.
She also said the addition of more aircraft was under consideration as part of efforts to establish a mixed fleet and ensure the airline's sustainable growth.
The minister said implementation of the plan would significantly expand the national carrier's fleet over the next decade.
In her written response, Afroza also told parliament that Biman Bangladesh Airlines has added nine aircraft to its fleet over the past 15 years. These include two Boeing 787-9 aircraft purchased in 2019, five Dash 8-400 aircraft acquired in 2020 and 2021, and two Boeing 737-800 aircraft purchased in 2021.
