Two people were shot dead, and at least 10 others were injured in a violent clash between BNP and Awami League groups over establishing dominance in Narsingdi's Raipura upazila today (21 March).

The deceased were identified as Amin Mia, 23, and Bashar, 35, both supporters of the "Salam group." Amin was the son of Khorshed Mia, and Bashar was the son of Barek Hazi.

The clash occurred in the morning at Mohinipur village under Chanpur union, according to police.

Raipura Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Masud Rana confirmed the incident, stating, "Two groups clashed over territorial control, resulting in two deaths from gunshot wounds."

Police and locals reported that the dispute had been simmering for months between Abdus Salam, a local Awami League leader, and Haji Shamsu, president of the BNP's Chanpur union unit.

Tensions had led members of Salam's group to avoid the area for several months. However, when they attempted to return on Friday morning, supporters of Shamsu confronted them, leading to a violent clash with firearms and locally made weapons.

"Amin and Bashar, both supporters of the Salam group, were shot during the clash," said Prabir Kumar Ghosh, officer-in-charge (Investigation) of Raipura police station.

"We are confirmed about the two deaths, but the area is remote, and it is taking time for law enforcement to reach the site," he added.
