Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman has said the public will not accept the rehabilitation of Awami League.

In a Facebook post this morning (21 March), he called on everyone to stay vigilant, calm, and united in protecting the nation's independence and sovereignty.

Jamaat chief's statement comes after Hasnat Abdullah's post on alleged attempt to revive Awami League tying cantonment went viral and sparked protests.

Shafiqur Rahman, in his post, wrote, "Bangladesh is passing a significant phase in its history. After a long period of fascist rule, the country received a new Bangladesh following the events of 24-36 July," he wrote.

Shafiqur warned that fallen fascists, both inside and outside the country are engaged in various conspiracies to destabilise the nation.

He wrote, "The 18 crore oppressed people of Bangladesh want justice for the genocide, rehabilitation for the families of martyrs from the 2024 uprising, proper medical treatment for injured and disabled students, youth, and freedom-seeking people, and thorough reform of issues created during the previous 15 years in preparation for a proper election."

"At this time, the people want to see justice for the genocide as a priority. There is no opportunity to think about anything else beyond this," he added.

Earlier, Hasnat Abdullah, chief organiser (South) of the National Citizen Party (NCP), claimed in a Facebook post that he and two others were proposed seat sharing [on the upcoming elections] to accept an Awami League rehabilitation plan during a meeting at the Cantonment on 11 March.

Hasnat had alleged that the plan, which he described as "entirely India's," would create a "Refined Awami League" that would admit to the crimes of the Sheikh family, reject former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and promise to restore "the Awami League of Bangabandhu" to the public.
