EC to decide on Jamaat's registration, Ishraque's mayorship after getting court orders
Jamaat will be provided with what they deserve legally, says the EC senior secretary

The Election Commission (EC) will take decisions on Jamaat-e-Islami's registration, its election symbol and Ishraque Hossain's mayorship after getting copies of the relevant verdicts of the Appellate Division of Supreme Court, EC Senior Secretary Akhter Ahmed said today (1 June).
"We haven't received any observation from the court regarding Jamaat's registration and symbol. We will take legal steps after getting observations from the court," he told reporters at the Election Commission Office in Agargaon.
Replying to a query on Jamaat's registration and symbol, he said, "Jamaat will be provided with what they deserve legally. As I have no document of court's observation in this regard, I have no scope to make any remark on this."
Regarding another query on BNP leader Ishraque Hossain's mayorship, he said, "I cannot make any official statement without getting any document or paper."
Earlier this morning, the Supreme Court overturned a High Court verdict declaring Jamaat's registration illegal and instructed the EC to address the issue of the party's symbol.
Meanwhile, on 30 May, the Supreme Court's Appellate Division resolved the leave to appeal concerning the gazette notification declaring BNP leader Ishraque Hossain as Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayor, with observations.
