PM may reshuffle ministerial portfolios, appoint new advisers if dissatisfied with performance: Zahed 

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman may reassign ministerial portfolios or appoint new members to his advisory council if he is dissatisfied with their performance, PM's Information and Broadcasting Adviser Zahed Ur Rahman said today (21 July).

Speaking at a press briefing at the Secretariat on the government's recent activities, he, however, declined to say whether any such reshuffle will take place before or after the government's first 180 days in office.

Zahed said, "I do not know either. I have seen the reports in the media as well. I have nothing more to add [on this matter]."

"We can think about one thing in general. This is not only about 180 days. A fascist or mafia regime always tries to show that whatever it has done is correct. It never wants to admit mistakes or move away from its own decisions," he added.

Referring to the current administration, the adviser said the prime minister formed his advisory council with the objective of ensuring effective governance.

"From my discussions with him at different times, I understand that if he ever feels someone is not performing as expected, he may decide to reassign portfolios or appoint someone new if necessary. At the end of the day, the goal is to ensure the welfare of the people," he said.

"If, as prime minister, he believes a decision can be made in a better way, then he will certainly do so. But I cannot say with certainty whether that will happen before or after 180 days," he added.

Zahed also announced that the government is forming a panel of lawyers to handle legal matters related to cyberbullying and misinformation.

He said a gazette notification constituting the panel could be issued within this week.
