A banner of the district administration has now been put up at the site of the demolished district office of Hasanul Haq Inu's Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) in the Satmatha area of Bogura city.

The banner, which was placed last night (8 February), said the land is a government-acquired abandoned property, as per the Gazette of the People's Republic of Bangladesh.

Speaking on the matter, Bogura Deputy Commissioner Hosna Afroze told journalists that the land of the JSD office is government property.

"The district administration had placed a signboard on the site. If anyone claims ownership of the property, they must provide the necessary documents for verification, after which appropriate action will be taken," she added.

Prior to the district administration's banner, two banners were placed on top of the debris around the afternoon that read, "Designated site for July 2024 Memorial Mosque. Implementation: Anti-Discrimination Student Movement."

Abdullah Sani, claiming to speak on behalf of the student body, announced plans for a mosque on the site.

He declared that a mosque named "Shaheer Abu Sayeed Jame Mosque" would be established in honour of Abu Sayeed, a martyr of the July uprising.

Earlier that day, some other individuals had claimed ownership of the site and put up banners asserting their rights.

However, around 5pm, a group of young men removed those banners and replaced them with the ones mentioning the mosque's construction.

Meanwhile, other members of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement reportedly suggested using the demolished Awami League office as a toilet.

On Thursday night (6 February), a group of angry youths demolished the Awami League office in Satmatha, a private office belonging to an Awami League leader, the Town Club, and the district JSD office.

They also destroyed the Jatiya Party office on the city's Kabi Nazrul Islam Road.
