Elderly woman dies of injuries after state minister's car swerves off road trying to save her in Bogura
Firoza, 55, breathed her last around noon today while undergoing treatment at TMSS Medical College and Rafatullah Community Hospital in Bogura town.
A woman injured when a car carrying Md Abdul Bari, state minister for public administration and food, swerved off the road in Kichok union of Bogura's Shibganj upazila has died.
Firoza, 55, breathed her last around noon today (4 September) while undergoing treatment at TMSS Medical College and Rafatullah Community Hospital in Bogura town.
The accident occurred at around 9am on the Mokamtala-Joypurhat road in the Gopinathpur area of the union.
Shibganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shahinuzzaman said her body is being kept at the hospital.
Earlier, police said the state minister had not been seriously hurt in the accident.
According to police and local sources, Bari was travelling from Dhaka to Joypurhat on official duty today when his motorcade reached Gopinathpur.
Firoza had suddenly stepped into the path of the lead vehicle, they said.
The driver swerved to avoid her, losing control of the vehicle and running the car into a field beside the road.
Firoza was hurt in the process and was taken to the hospital by locals.
Bari sustained minor injuries but continued his journey to Joypurhat in another vehicle shortly afterwards, along with his wife.
OC Shahinuzzaman said Bari had been travelling from Dhaka to his constituency, Joypurhat-2, for an official visit.
The accident occurred as the woman was crossing the road in Gopinathpur, according to him.
At the time, the OC had said her injuries were not serious, adding that the state minister and his wife were both in good health.
A recovery vehicle was being arranged to remove the damaged car from the site, he added.
