13 shifted to cabins, no need for blood or skin donations: Burn institute director
There are currently six critical patients, he says
Thirteen of the injured in the Milestone School tragedy have been moved to cabins, and many of them are expected to be discharged within the next two days, said Dr Mohammad Nasir Uddin, director of the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
Speaking at a press briefing this evening (24 July) to update the condition of the injured, Dr Nasir Uddin confirmed that none of the patients currently require blood transfusions.
"There is enough skin available in the skin bank, so we are not accepting any skin donations either," he said.
He went on to say, "The government is covering all treatment expenses. Many people have offered financial help, but I want to make it clear — we don't need anything at the moment."
He also confirmed the deaths of two more students today.
"There are currently six critical patients, down from eight after today's deaths. The 13 patients who were in serious condition yesterday remain in the same state, but we remain hopeful about their recovery," he said.
According to the list released by the government today (24 July), 29 people have died so far (the list includes data received until 11am).
The names of the deceased are:
Tanvir (14), Afnan Faiyaz (14), Mahrin (46), Bappy (9), Masuka (37), AB Samim (14), Shayan Yousuf (14), Arikson (13), Ariyan (13), Nazia (13), Nafi (9), Rojoni Islam, (37), Md. Samiul Karim (9), Mrs Fatema Akter (9), Mehnaz Afarin Humayra, (9), Sariya Akter (13), Nusrat Jahan Anika (10), Sad Salaudddin, (9), Sayma Akter (9), Flight Lt. Md. Towkir Islam (21), Junayet (9), Omayer Nur Ashfiq (11).
According to the latest government data, seven bodies remain unidentified.
Two other victims - Mahia, 15, and Mahtab Rahman Bhuiyan, 15, passed away while undergoing treatment later in the day, taking the death toll to 31.
Meanwhile, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) confirmed the identities of five individuals today.
The identified victims are Okiya Ferdous Nidhi, daughter of Faruk Hossain and Salma Akter, Lamia Akhter Sonia, daughter of Babul and Majeda, Afsana Akter Priya, daughter of Abbas Uddin and Minu Akter, Raisa Moni, daughter of Shahabul Sheikh and Mim, and Marium Umme Afia, daughter of Abdul Kadir and Umme Tamima Akter.
