UCB launches entrepreneurship development programme in Bogura
United Commercial Bank PLC (UCB), in collaboration with Bangladesh Bank, has launched a month-long Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) in Bogura to equip emerging entrepreneurs with the tools and knowledge needed to grow their businesses and access formal banking services.
Supported by the Skills for Industry Competitiveness and Innovation Program (SICIP) under the Ministry of Finance, the initiative targets entrepreneurs currently outside the formal financial system—fostering inclusive economic growth and employment opportunities in the region.
The programme was inaugurated in the presence of senior officials, including Md. Shakhawat Hossain, Executive Director of Bangladesh Bank; Md. Nazrul Islam, Additional Director and Programme Director, SICIP-PIU; Md. Ariful Islam, Deputy Director and Programme Coordinator, SICIP-PIU; Adnan Masud, Additional Managing Director of UCB; Syed Hasnain Mamun, Chief Human Resource Officer, UCB; and Mohammad Salim Chowdhury, Head of SME & Agri Banking Division, UCB.
In his remarks, Md. Shakhawat Hossain underscored the vital role of grassroots entrepreneurship in national development. Adnan Masud reaffirmed UCB's commitment to SME and agri-sector growth, calling the initiative "a bridge to financial inclusion and sustainable development."
The EDP forms part of a broader strategy to build a resilient, innovation-driven entrepreneurial ecosystem and expand the reach of formal financial services across underserved communities.
