NU makes ICT and English compulsory in honours courses
To enhance students' employability and produce skilled graduates, the National University (NU) has revised its honours curriculum by making ICT and English mandatory subjects.
The university has also signed memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with a2i, the National Skills Development Authority (NSDA) and Unicef, among other organisations, to provide technical and vocational training to students. Discussions are also under way with reputed universities and relevant institutions at home and abroad.
According to the NU, the curriculum reform focuses on aligning higher education with modern technology and industry needs, ensuring that graduates can quickly transition into employment or entrepreneurship without prolonged unemployment.
Professor Dr ASM Amanullah, vice-chancellor of the National University, said that the reform process would incorporate feedback and recommendations from subject teachers. He called on college principals to actively engage teachers in understanding and implementing the upcoming changes.
He made the remarks while addressing principals and vice-principals of NU-affiliated colleges in Chattogram district at a view-exchange meeting held at the Chattogram Circuit House on Friday (14 November 2025).
The vice-chancellor said the National University is encouraging training in various technical and professional fields, and has begun signing agreements with employers and industries to ensure faster job placements for graduates.
Highlighting the shortage of technical and professional training institutes in Chattogram — a key business hub — he urged the establishment of new institutes to expand opportunities for youth to pursue practical and employment-oriented education.
He also mentioned that reforms are being introduced in the governing bodies of affiliated colleges, where principals will have an important role to play.
