NRBC Bank disburses Tk 3.95cr in loans to marginal farmers in Bhola
 
NRBC Bank PLC has organised an open loan disbursement programme for marginalised, landless farmers and low-income professionals under Bangladesh Bank's refinancing scheme, aimed at enhancing financial inclusion for grassroots communities.
The event was held on Thursday at a local hotel in Bhola, with Rup Ratan Pine, Executive Director of Bangladesh Bank, attending as chief guest. He handed over loan cheques to selected beneficiaries, including 21 customers of NRBC Bank.
Dr Md Touhidul Alam Khan, Managing Director and CEO of NRBC Bank, presided over the event. Md Firoz Ahmed, Deputy Director of Bangladesh Bank; Sk Ahsanul Haque, Head of SME and Agricultural Finance Division; Md Romjan Ali Bhuiyan, Head of Microcredit Department; and Md Abdul Halim, Head of Barishal-Khulna Zone, were present along with officials from various banks.
Under Bangladesh Bank's Tk 750 crore refinancing fund, created for marginal farmers, landless people, low-income professionals and small entrepreneurs, NRBC Bank has disbursed Tk 3.95 crore to 137 customers in Bhola district and Tk 150 crore nationwide. Beneficiaries can avail themselves of loans ranging from Tk 50,000 to Tk 5 lakh at a 7% concessional interest rate.
Rup Ratan Pine said the central bank's financial inclusion drive aims to ensure every citizen has a bank account, promoting entrepreneurship and self-employment to contribute to national growth.
Dr Md Touhidul Alam Khan reaffirmed NRBC Bank's commitment to supporting Bangladesh Bank's inclusive finance goals, saying: 'Financial upliftment of underprivileged people is essential for sustainable development.
