Amber IT plans 500 free Wi-Fi zones across Bangladesh
Amber IT Limited, one of the country's leading internet service providers, has launched a new initiative to make internet access more widely available across Bangladesh.
In addition to its broadband services, the company is setting up free Wi-Fi zones for Amber IT internet users across the country. Users of Amber IT's internet service will be able to access the internet free of charge at এসব zones, according to a press release. The programme has already started with the launch of Wi-Fi zones at five locations, and the company plans to set up a total of 500 Wi-Fi zones nationwide within this year.
The company said the zones will be introduced in phases at important and busy public locations, as well as in selected specialised areas. These points will be operated in partnership with local businesspeople and entrepreneurs, mainly through small businesses such as pharmacies, tea stalls and grocery shops.
Aminul Hakim, chief executive officer of Amber IT Limited, said the company's goal is to ensure affordable and easily accessible internet across the country.
"Through this Wi-Fi zone initiative, people will be able to use reliable internet more easily. At the same time, it will open up new opportunities for local entrepreneurs," he said.
Existing Amber IT customers will be able to use the service free of charge by connecting to the relevant Wi-Fi zone with the mobile number registered with the company. Non-customers will also be able to access the service by purchasing coupon cards.
The Wi-Fi points will offer packages of different durations, including Tk8 for five hours, Tk12 for one day, Tk66 for seven days, and Tk200 for 30 days. Users will be able to connect to the internet by using the code provided on the coupon card.
Wi-Fi zones have already been launched at Bibir Pukur Par in Barishal, Jacob Tower area in Char Fasson, Bhola, Sreemangal railway station, Shialkol College Road in Sirajganj, and EPZ Mor in Nilphamari. The company said at least 15 more locations will be launched within this month, particularly before Eid.
The initiative is expected to make internet use easier and more affordable in crowded public areas, benefiting students, travellers, freelancers and general users. Local small businesses are also expected to earn additional income by operating the Wi-Fi points.
