National workshop on climate smart agriculture and water management held in Dhaka
The National Workshop on the Climate Smart Agriculture and Water Management (CSAWM) project for 2024-25 was held on 21 June at the BAEC Auditorium in Dhaka. The workshop was chaired by Md. Saiful Alam, Director General of the Department of Agricultural Extension.
Project Director Khandakar Mohammad Rashed Iftekhar delivered the keynote presentation, outlining the vision and progress of the initiative. The event was attended by Dr. Mohammad Emdad Ullah Mian, Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture as the Chief Guest. Other distinguished guests included Md. Abu Zubayer Hossain Bablu, Additional Secretary (Research Branch) of the Ministry of Agriculture; Piyush Krishna Kundu, Project Director of BWDB's CSAWMP; and Samina Yasmin, World Bank Task Team Leader.
The workshop featured open discussion sessions with farmers, researchers, and officials from various levels of the Department of Agricultural Extension.

In his address, the Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture emphasised the importance of leveraging the workshop's discussions to take decisive and forward-looking actions. He highlighted the need to ensure that the perspectives of farmers are integral to shaping future strategies.
Speakers expressed optimism that the adoption of climate-smart agricultural technologies across 19 sub-projects in 27 climate-vulnerable upazilas will mitigate the risks posed by climate change and establish a sustainable safety net for Bangladesh's food production.
Senior officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and representatives from the farming community affirmed their commitment to collaboration in building a stronger, more resilient, and environmentally sustainable future.
