LGED celebrates innovative ideas in climate adaptation
The 'LGED Adaptation Award 2024' was held on Wednesday, 12 November 2025, at the Kamrul Islam Siddique Auditorium of the LGED Headquarters.
The event was organised by the Climate Resilient Local Infrastructure Center (CReLIC) under the Climate Resilient Infrastructure Mainstreaming (CRIM) project.
The award aimed to mainstream climate-resilient knowledge, recognise innovative engineering ideas, and promote the exchange of best practices in climate change adaptation.
A total of 34 participants from LGED headquarters and field offices submitted papers under three categories—Innovative Ideas (9), Lessons Learned (5), and Best Practices (6). An evaluation committee, comprising representatives from LGED, development partners, and other agencies, reviewed the submissions.
LGED Additional Chief Engineer and CReLIC Director Kazi Golam Mustafa delivered the welcome remarks, highlighting CReLIC's role as a potential "Centre of Excellence" for climate knowledge within LGED. "CReLIC will serve as a complete repository of climate change knowledge and experience, helping in project planning, implementation, and institutional efficiency," he said.
LGED Chief Engineer Javed Karim presided over the event and distributed crests, certificates, and prize money among the winners. "Young and experienced engineers must work hand in hand to address climate challenges. Innovative ideas should be integrated into new project designs to ensure sustainability," he said.
Development partner Md Touhidur Rahman, Portfolio Coordinator of KfW, also spoke at the event. Md Abdul Khalek, Project Director of CRIM–CReLIC; Md Latif Hossain, Executive Engineer; and Senior Assistant Engineer Fatema Ismat Ara presented honorary crests and flowers to the chief guest and special guests.
The event was hosted by Senior Assistant Engineer Partha Kumar Sarkar and Assistant Engineer Afifa Sultana Pritul. Syed Mahabub Ahsan and G M Khairul Islam from the CReLIC IDC team coordinated the overall competition.
