A party trying to tactically withdraw from polls: Salahuddin
He also said the BNP would urge the Election Commission to ensure a level playing field.
A political party is trying to tactically withdraw from the election, BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed said today (17 January) without naming the party, and vowed that the BNP will not allow such a move.
"Those trying to obstruct the path of democracy will not succeed, and democratic governance will inevitably return to Bangladesh," he said at a dialogue with families of victims of enforced disappearance, murder, and torture during previous governments, held at the China-Bangladesh Friendship Conference Centre in Dhaka and jointly organised by 'Mayer Daak' and 'Amra BNP Poribar' with participants from across the country.
Salahuddin also said the BNP would urge the Election Commission to ensure a level playing field.
On BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman's Northern Bangladesh tour, he said the party had temporarily suspended its programmes at the request of the EC in the "interest of peace".
He claimed that some political parties and officials viewed this as a sign of weakness.
"BNP's civility should not be seen as weakness, but rather as an effort to maintain humility and peace," he said, adding that the party is committed to advancing democracy.
The session, chaired by Amra BNP Poribar Convenor Atikur Rahman Rumon and co-hosted by Sanjida Islam Tuli, Zahidul Islam Roni, and Moksedul Momin Mithun, also featured speeches by BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman, Senior Joint Secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Treasurer Rashiduzzaman Millat, and other party leaders.
