International delegates praise ACI agrolink’s shrimp processing standards
International delegates have highly praised ACI Agrolink's shrimp processing standards and quality control during a regional workshop held under the European Union's 'Better Training for Safer Food' (BTSF) programme.
After visiting the facility, delegates from eight EU and Asian countries said that the ACI Agrolink processing unit is on par with factories that meet full European standards.
Senior officials from the Department of Fisheries, including Dr Md Khaled Kanak, PSO, as well as district and upazila fisheries officials, joined the visit. Syed M Istiak, Business Director of ACI Agrolink, was also present.
The third day of the four-day training programme—'BTSF SPS Non-EU Countries Bangladesh: Regional Workshop on Aquaculture'—was conducted by ACI Agrolink in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries. The training, organised by the Spanish Association for Standardisation (AENOR) and funded by the EU, brought together 45 government representatives from Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam, as well as EU observers.
As part of the workshop, the delegation visited the ACI Shrimp Genetics Nursery and the ACI Agrolink shrimp processing factory. They received a detailed briefing on Post-Larval (PL) nursing and the EU-compliant processing of export-quality shrimp.
Delegates expressed satisfaction with ACI's management and recognised its contribution to the shrimp value chain. They said that the food safety, quality, and biosecurity maintained by ACI in PL nursing and processing were commendable, adding that such high standards inspire confidence in sourcing ACI products at premium prices.
When asked about areas for improvement, a European Commission representative stated that ACI Agrolink is already maintaining the highest international standards and should focus on sustaining this level of performance. The EU delegation also presented a BTSF certificate of appreciation to ACI Agrolink for upholding high standards.
