Eastern University represented Bangladesh at the international rounds of the 2025 Philip C Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, held in Washington, DC—often referred to as the "World Cup of Moots."
This year's edition made history with a record 805 universities from 104 countries taking part, making it the largest in the competition's 66-year history.
Eastern University ranked 74th globally in the Memorial (written submissions) category, outperforming reputed institutions such as the University of Oxford (UK), University of Chicago (USA), University of Toronto (Canada), New York University (USA), and the University of Oslo (Norway). The team also outpaced this year's runner-up, the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy (Ukraine).
Overall, the university secured the 116th position globally—the highest among Bangladeshi institutions in this year's international rounds. It also outperformed institutions like the Law Society of Ireland, Ohio State University (USA), University of Pretoria (South Africa), and Waseda University (Japan).
The competition, held from 28 March to 6 April at the Hyatt Regency in Washington, saw Eastern University engaging in legal debates against globally recognised institutions including the University of Oxford and Tashkent State University of Law (Uzbekistan).
The university and its Moot Court Society expressed pride in the achievement, noting that the experience had significantly enriched the team's academic and professional development.
The authorities thanked the Jessup community, the team's coaches, mentors, and all supporters for their contributions to this journey.
