DU Fine Arts batch showcases works in Sholo Rong exhibition
The group art exhibition Sholo Rong—Sixteen Shades of the Sixteenth Batch was inaugurated on Thursday afternoon at Gallery Chitrak in Dhanmondi, Dhaka.
Featuring works by 32 artists from the 16th batch of the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka, the exhibition will remain open until 15 December 2025.
Renowned artist and former Faculty of Fine Arts teacher, Professor Mohammad Eunus, also Chairman of Art Bangla Foundation, attended the opening as chief guest. Professor Moinuddin Khaled and Gallery Chitrak Executive Director, Md Muniruzzaman, were present as special guests.
Curator Rajib Ahmed stated that the exhibition represents a reunion and rediscovery of artistic identity. "Sholo Rong reflects our multidimensional perspectives, methods, and emotional worlds. Despite long breaks, many of us remained connected to art, and this exhibition marks a renewed embrace of creativity," he said.
Md Muniruzzaman emphasised the importance of exhibitions, stating that they go beyond buying and selling and allow viewers time to connect with artworks. Professor Moinuddin Khaled noted that 21 of the 32 participating artists are women, calling their continued artistic practice alongside family responsibilities highly encouraging.
Professor Mohammad Eunus urged the artists to continue practising regularly, and expressed hope to see solo exhibitions from each participant in the future.
The exhibition also pays tribute to their late batchmate, Zulkarnain Ashzadi (20 January 1989–11 May 2016).
The artworks explore themes of emotion, memory, nature, urban life, and identity across mediums including drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, watercolour, ceramics, and crafts.
The exhibition is open daily from 11am to 8pm.
