Anis Alamgir arrested in anti-terrorism case, 3 others including Shaon accused
Anis Alamgir will be produced before the court today (15 December).
Journalist Anis Alamgir has been arrested in an anti-terrorism case filed at Uttara West Police Station.
Three others, including Meher Afroz Shaon, have also been accused in the case, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police Uttara West Zone Assistant Commissioner Saddam Hossian.
The case was filed by Ariyan Ahmed, a central organiser of the July Revolutionary Alliance, at Uttara West Police Station after 2:30am today (15 December).
Two others accused in the complaint are model Maria Kispotta and media personality Imtu Ratish Imtiaz.
A joint commissioner of the Detective Branch (DB) said Anis Alamgir will be produced before the court today (15 December).
According to the plaintiff Ariyan Ahmed, who claims to be a central organiser of the July Revolutionary Alliance, alleged that the accused made provocative statements inciting what he termed Awami League-backed violent activities and made derogatory remarks about the July Uprising.
He mentioned that though the deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina fled the country following a mass uprising, her followers are hiding inside the country and have been conspiring to destabilise the country and state organisations.
Ariyan said the accused Anis Alamgir and three others have been under the shelter of Awami League even before the mass uprising last July.
"The accused, including Anis Alamgir, have been trying to bring back the banned political organisations like Awami League through social media posts and television talk shows as part of propaganda," he added.
