Dream71 wins UNDP contract to build Uganda’s first climate data platform
Dream71 Bangladesh Limited has secured a major international contract from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to develop Uganda's first centralised Climate Data Platform a system aimed at modernising the country's agricultural insurance sector through reliable, data-driven insights.
The contract was awarded through an international competitive process under UNDP's Financial Resilience in Agriculture initiative. The project is being implemented in partnership with Uganda's Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, the Insurance Regulatory Authority, the Bank of Uganda, and the Agriculture Insurance Consortium, which operates the national agricultural insurance programme known as UAIS.
For years, Uganda's agricultural insurance market has struggled with limited access to dependable weather information, a shortage of automated weather stations, and gaps in historical climate datasets. Although satellite data from NASA and the European Space Agency are currently used, the absence of an integrated national platform has restricted the development of accurate, location-specific insurance products.
The new Climate Data Platform is expected to bridge these gaps by enabling advanced analysis of rainfall patterns, soil moisture, vegetation indices, evapotranspiration, loss histories, value chain data, and region-specific climate indicators. This will support insurers, regulators, and policymakers in making more precise and evidence-based decisions.
Dream71 Bangladesh, which has been providing technology solutions for government agencies and development partners across Asia and Africa, considers the project an important milestone in its expanding global portfolio.
"We believe that building a climate data-driven decision-support platform in a highly agriculture-dependent country like Uganda goes far beyond technology it directly influences farmer livelihoods, financial inclusion, and national climate resilience," said Rashad Kabir, Managing Director of Dream71 Bangladesh Limited. "This engagement reflects our growing international capabilities and further highlights Bangladesh's technological potential within the Global South."
Dream71 currently operates in around fifteen countries, offering a wide range of software and technology development services.
