45 Rangpur police officers trained to investigate MFS misuse
A total of 45 investigating officers from Rangpur district police attended a day-long workshop on using transaction data to investigate online gambling, fraud and other crimes involving mobile financial services.
Rangpur district police and bKash jointly organised the workshop, titled "Investigation and Prevention of Misuse of Mobile Financial Services", at the police lines hall, according to a press release.
Rangpur Superintendent of Police Mohammad Mozammel Haque attended the workshop as chief guest.
bKash Executive Vice President and Head of External Affairs Major AKM Monirul Karim (Retired) also attended.
The workshop covered using technology and mobile financial service transaction data to trace financial flows, recover customers' lost funds, and identify individuals or groups involved in online gambling, fraud, kidnapping, and other crimes.
Participants also discussed establishing rapid communication between investigating officers and bKash officials and following immediate response protocols after a criminal incident.
The organisers said every digital transaction left a trace that could support investigations by the police, Detective Branch, Criminal Investigation Department and Police Bureau of Investigation.
bKash has conducted such workshops with different stakeholders since 2017. Around 4,500 officials from law enforcement agencies have attended the sessions across Bangladesh.
