CSE trains brokers ahead of commodity derivatives launch

Chittagong Stock Exchange PLC (CSE) hosted a two-day Train-the-Trainers programme for broker representatives as part of its preparations to introduce commodity derivatives trading.
The representatives will educate investors and in-house teams on trading opportunities and risk management tools.
Addressing the participants, the CSE Managing Director emphasized the need for capacity-building before launching commodity trading. "Our authorized representatives must be thoroughly trained and able to transfer expertise to all investor groups, including equity investors and participants in the commodity value chain," he said.
The MD noted CSE has already forwarded proposals to the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) for approval to trade in gold, silver, and crude palm oil. Once approved, these will be available on CSE's unified platform.
He added that ongoing training and product diversification will attract a broader investor base and reshape the structure of Bangladesh's capital market. "Commodity derivatives trading will open new investment channels, boost efficiency in the commodity ecosystem, and contribute significantly to the national economy."
The system developed by CSE can also process equity derivatives and index futures, which CSE will introduce once BSEC completes the regulatory framework. The Exchange is also evaluating the listing of additional products, including soybean oil, wheat, and sugar.
Broker representatives were urged to regularly conduct similar training sessions to broaden investor understanding and participation in hedging, speculation, and arbitrage strategies.
Participants included representatives from leading brokerage firms, such as City Brokerage, LankaBangla Securities, BRAC EPL Stock Brokerage, Be Rich, ICB Securities Trading Company, Royal Capital, UCB Stock Brokerage, Island Securities, T K Shares & Securities, and One Securities.
Senior managers from CSE attended the opening session, underscoring the Exchange's dedication to investor education, financial innovation, and long-term growth in the capital market.
