Brac university hosts international conference on financial literacy

BRAC University hosted the International Conference on Financial Literacy and Economic Well-being 2025 at its Merul Badda campus in Dhaka on June 26, bringing together local and international experts to explore the critical link between financial literacy and economic performance.
Organised by BRAC Business School (BBS), the conference featured presentations of 60 extended abstracts and full papers from academics, researchers and practitioners. The sessions aimed to advance the discourse on financial competence, inclusion and digitalisation and their collective role in empowering individuals and strengthening the broader economy.
Professor Dr Mohamad Fazli Bin Sabri, Dean of the Faculty of Human Ecology at Universiti Putra Malaysia, delivered the keynote address.
A plenary session featuring Professor Mohammed Helal Uddin, Executive Vice Chairman of the Microcredit Regulatory Authority; Md Mushfiqur Rahman, Chairperson of the SME Foundation; and Arinjoy Dhar, Senior Director at BRAC Microfinance, focused on grassroots financial empowerment and institutional strategies for inclusion.
The session titled "Empowering Individuals and Organisations through Financial Literacy, Competency, Inclusion, and Digitalisation" welcomed Nazma Mobarek, Secretary of the Financial Institutions Division, as the chief guest. Mohammad Muslim Chowdhury, Chairman of Sonali Bank PLC and former Comptroller and Auditor General, attended as a guest of honour.
Professor Mohammad Mujibul Haque, Dean of BBS, delivered the opening remarks, while BRAC University Vice-Chancellor Professor Ferhat Anwar closed the conference, calling for greater collaboration between academia, industry and policymakers. "The challenges of economic inequality and financial exclusion must be tackled collectively with intent and innovation," he said.

The conference marked a key step in BRAC University's efforts to champion financial literacy as a national development priority, reinforcing its commitment to research-driven policy dialogue and real-world impact.
