BMCCI gets new president, secretary general
Md Anwar Shahid, managing director of Shimex International Ltd, has been elected president of the Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) for the 2026–27 term.
Syed Moinuddin Ahmed, managing director of GD Assist Limited, has been elected as the secretary general.
BMCCI Election Board Chairman Shahab Uddin Khan announced the results for the new board of directors at the chamber premises in Dhaka on 30 April.
BMCCI said in a statement that the newly elected leadership is expected to strengthen bilateral trade and investment ties between Bangladesh and Malaysia.
Md Anwar Shahid is involved in Bangladesh's international trade and indenting sector. He founded Shimex International Ltd in 1993 and currently serves as its managing director. He is also the founder of MAS Consultants BD.
With more than three decades of professional experience, Shahid has been involved in trade facilitation and has worked with BMCCI to promote commercial exchange and business cooperation between Bangladesh and Malaysia.
MA Bakar, managing director of Jaycee Shipping Agency Ltd, was elected senior vice-president of BMCCI.
Shaikh Bashir Ahmed Mamun, CEO of Aero Speed International Limited, and Md Arfatur Rahman Apel, proprietor of Arafat Motors & Machineries, were elected vice-presidents.
M Mahmudur Rashid, managing director of Grasshopper Corporation, and Md Mamunur Rahman, CEO of Expopro, were elected joint secretary generals, while Ahmed Kabir, managing director of WorldBD Trade Ltd, was elected treasurer.
The other elected directors are Dr Lokiat Ullah, managing director of Biopharma Limited; Engineer Mohammad Badrul Hassan, chairman of BBS Cables Ltd; Mohammed Shahjahan, proprietor of Bengal International Agencies; Abu Hena Mastafa Kamal, CEO of SP Agro Care Limited; Md Faizul Alam, managing director of Savor International Limited; Md Shahjahan Shaju, managing director and CEO of US Energy and Power Private Limited; Jobayer Ahmed, director of Shah Fatehullah Textile Mills Limited; and Kazi Fahad Mostafa, CEO of KM Air Aviation Ltd.
"I am deeply honoured and feel a profound sense of responsibility as I take on the role of BMCCI president. Since its inception, BMCCI has played a crucial role in elevating bilateral trade and investment between Bangladesh and Malaysia," said president-elect Md Anwar Shahid.
He also thanked outgoing president Shabbir A. Khan for his leadership over the past two years.
Congratulating the new leadership, Shabbir said BMCCI had undertaken several transformative initiatives during his tenure, including ventures in semiconductor innovation and efforts to explore the economic prospects of the halal sector.
"As I pass the leadership to Md Anwar Shahid, I have every confidence that his vision and the expertise of the new board will further elevate the chamber's role as a catalyst for trade excellence and sustainable growth," he said.
The event was attended by outgoing board members, newly elected directors and the election board.
