RAB-3 arrests alleged online gambling operator in Dhaka
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a 43-year-old man on allegations of administering and promoting several international online gambling and betting platforms.
According to a press release, a RAB-3 team arrested Md Ahidur Rahman during a raid at 20 Outer Circular Road in Rajarbagh under Shahjahanpur Police Station on Tuesday (25 August).
The law enforcement agency said it recovered two smartphones allegedly used for gambling operations, two SIM cards, a motorcycle and Tk55,500 in cash.
RAB also claimed to have found Tk81,214 in a bKash account and Tk50,041 in a Nagad account accessible through the seized devices.
During preliminary interrogation, Ahidur allegedly admitted serving as an administrator and agent for several international gambling platforms, RAB said.
The agency alleged that he used fake Facebook and WhatsApp accounts to attract customers and promote betting sites prohibited in Bangladesh.
A review of his WhatsApp and Messenger conversations allegedly found evidence of gambling-related promotions and transactions with people in Bangladesh and abroad, the release said.
RAB further alleged that members of the network sold betting-site credits to customers and conducted transactions through mobile financial services.
Ahidur reportedly told investigators that another 10–12 unidentified people were involved in the network.
Based on information obtained during the interrogation, RAB said efforts were under way to identify and arrest the other suspected members.
A case was filed against Ahidur under relevant sections of the Gambling Prevention Act 2026.
