Bangladesh Embassy in Morocco hoists flag at half-mast on 21 february
The Bangladesh Embassy in Rabat observed Shaheed Day and International Mother Language Day 2026 on 21 February.
The observance began with the national flag being hoisted at half-mast at the chancery by Ambassador Sadia Faizunnesa. The programme then included recitation from the Holy Quran, a one-minute silence, the reading of messages from the President, Prime Minister, Foreign Minister, and State Minister for Foreign Affairs, the screening of a video message from the President of the UNESCO General Conference, and special prayers.
In her address, Faizunnesa paid tribute to the language martyrs and recalled their role in protecting Bangla, while also highlighting the value of multilingualism and multiculturalism.
Bangladeshi community members and foreign nationals living in Morocco, Moroccan citizens, and embassy officials and staff attended the event.
Earlier, on 13 February, the embassy, in collaboration with the Royal Institute of Amazigh Culture and the UNESCO Regional Office for the Maghreb, observed International Mother Language Day at the Royal Institute of Amazigh Culture.
Faizunnesa, Ahmed Boukous, Rector of the Royal Institute of Amazigh Culture, and Charaf Ahmimed, Director of the UNESCO Regional Office for the Maghreb, spoke at the event. A recorded message from Ambassador Khondker M Talha, President of the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference, was also played.
The programme was attended by the Director General of ICESCO, ambassadors and representatives of missions in Rabat, and representatives of cultural institutions and academia. The event also featured multicultural performances by participants from several countries, including Bangladesh and Morocco.
The embassy stated that the programmes helped promote Bangladesh's image in Morocco, particularly in advancing the protection and preservation of multilingualism and multiculturalism.
