Brac Bank joins hands with Team ‘Project Oxygen’ for tree plantation
49,000 trees to be planted in 49 minutes to commemorate the 49th year of independence

Brac Bank has joined the green action of 'Project Oxygen', a team of three voluntary development organizations, who will plant trees in the cyclone Amphan-affected coastal areas tomorrow, 4 September 2020.
Project Oxygen is a crowd-funded project initiated by the BANDHU Foundation of Bangladesh, Give Bangladesh and Aamrai Bangladesh. It has planned to plant 49,000 trees in 49 minutes in the Amphan-affected areas of Koyra Upazila in Khulna tomorrow.
The organizers said that they will also commemorate the 49th year of our independence through this initiative.
Brac Bank has contributed 4,900 trees in this green initiative.
Koyra Upazila lost about 40,000 trees due to cyclone Amphan in May this year. Project Oxygen hopes that the trees will lead to the reforestation of that area, lending crucial support to the Sundarbans in withstanding future natural disasters.
The team will plant locally accepted species of trees across seven unions of Koyra Upazila. The list of trees includes 20,500 Shirish, 16,500 Lombu, 2,000 Guava, 2,500 Wood Apple, 5,000 Sobeda (Sofeda), 2,000 Tamarind, 500 Krishnachura, 500 Bokul, 1,000 Amla (Amalaki), and 3,000 Tala Palm (Taal).
The volunteers from the BANDHU Foundation of Bangladesh, Give Bangladesh, and Aamrai Bangladesh will work with 25 local volunteering groups to plant these trees. The group will also look after the trees for one year and engage around 1,000 local ultra-poor people to look after the fruit-bearing trees, and consume the fruits.
Along with Brac Bank, organizations like Bank Asia, IPDC Finance Limited, Nijer Bolar Moto Ekta Golpo, Robi Axiata Limited, Shwapno, Dhaka Ladies' Club, and Epyllion Group are also contributing in this green initiative.
