Covid-19 cases, deaths on the rise

Bangladesh recorded 2,060 new cases and 38 more deaths from the novel coronavirus in the 24-hour period till Sunday 8am.

Such figures indicate a spike in new Covid-19 infections and deaths across Bangladesh.

According to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the country's death toll from the virus now stands at 6,388 and the number of Covid-19 cases stand at 447,341.
The latest day's infection rate was 14.85% of the total tests, though the overall rate in the country till date was 16.89 %. The death rate stands at 1.43%.
Among the latest day's victims, 28 were men and 10 were women. All the deceased died in different hospitals across the country.
Moreover, 28 of them hailed from Dhaka, three from Chattogram, one each from Rajshahi, Rangpur and Barishal and two each from Khulna and Mymensingh divisions.
In the 24-hour period, 13,870 samples were tested in 114 labs across the country and Bangladesh tested 2,649,072 samples so far. Besides, 2,076 patients were declared free of Covid-19 during the same period, raising the total number of recoveries to 362,428 with an 81.02% recovery rate.
The gender breakdown of Covid-19 victims' show that 4,909 of the total deceased were men and 1,479 were women.
The country's maiden cases were reported on 8 March this year, and the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March.
