The deceased were identified as Ashrafur Rahman Ashique, 24, who was riding the motorcycle and Asif Mahmud Sompod, 25, who was on the pillion.

Ashique had recently graduated from a private university and was working with a ride-sharing service, while Asif was a marine engineer, the OC added.

Sagar Kumar Ghosh, a sergeant of traffic police in Banani, told media, "The victims were killed after being run over by a ready-mix truck of a construction company."

"Although the truck was seized, the driver managed to flee. Members of fire service and police recovered the bodies and took them to a nearby hospital for autopsy," the sergeant said.
