Man surrenders after killing wife over family dispute in Munshiganj

A man has surrendered to police after allegedly hacking his wife to death following a family dispute in the Mir Kadim area of Munshiganj.
The incident took place around 2am today (20 May) night in the Purbo Para area of Mir Kadim municipality. The accused, Suman Mia, 50, turned himself in at Munshiganj Sadar Police Station around 5am.
The victim Mitu Akhter, 32, is the daughter of Montu Mia from Noyadighi Pathar village in the same municipality.
According to eyewitnesses and family members, Suman married Mitu about eight months ago. It was the second marriage for both of them. Mitu had previously been married and had three children from that marriage. Since their wedding, the couple had reportedly been locked in frequent quarrels and domestic disputes.
A few days ago, following a fight, Mitu left and went to her father's house. She was brought back home just yesterday and around 2am last night, Suman attacked her with a sharp cleaver, striking her on various parts of the body and the neck, killing her on the spot. He later voluntarily surrendered at the police station.
Munshiganj Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Saiful Alam said, "Suman Mia confessed to killing his wife after walking into the police station. The body has been recovered and sent to Munshiganj General Hospital morgue for autopsy."
