The accident occurred around 6:30am amid light rain on the Chabbish Mile area of the Dinajpur-Thakurgaon highway

Four people were killed and another four were injured in a tragic road accident on Thakurgaon-Dinajpur highway this morning (19 May).

The accident occurred when a Thakurgaon-bound truck collided head-on with a Dinajpur-bound microbus at the 25-mile area on Thakurgaon-Dinajpur highway at around 6:30am, police and locals said.

Among the victims, two died on the spot and one died on the way to the hospital. Another one died later while undergoing treatment at the hospital. Besides, four more people were seriously injured in the accident. The injured have been admitted to Thakurgaon Adhikari Sadar Hospital.

The deceased, who died on the spot, were identified as microbus driver Manik Hossain, 34, and microbus passenger Delwar Hossain, 35.

Among the seriously injured, Thakurgaon District Accounts Office Auditor Zulfiqar Ali, 45, died on the way to the hospital, and another passenger Imrul, 45, died while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

The names of the injured have been revealed by the emergency department of Thakurgaon 250-bed hospital.

They are Mizanur Rahman, 48, a resident of Munshihat in Thakurgaon, Al Mamun, 40, Abdul Mannan, 37, and Nahid, 37, residents of Hajipara in the municipality.

All of them are auditors of the Thakurgaon District Accounts Office, sources said.

Police said that immediately after the accident, police and fire service personnel reached the spot and started rescue operations. The bodies of two people were recovered from the spot.

Birganj Police Station OC Abdul Gafur said that traffic in the area remained normal despite the accident. Legal action is being taken to this end.
