Student bullet-hit during July uprising in Ctg dies in Thailand

Mohammad Hasan, a student activist critically injured by a gunshot to the head during last year's July Uprising in Chattogram, has died while undergoing treatment in Thailand.
The news was confirmed late last night (22 May) by Umama Fatema, central spokesperson of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
According to a Facebook post by Fatema citing Hasan's family, the 24-year-old passed away around 11pm yesterday. Further confirmation came shortly after through the Facebook page "Empowering Our Fighters," which quoted Hasan's sister as saying: "One of the wounded warriors of the July Uprising, our brother Hasan, has just embraced martyrdom in Thailand while undergoing treatment. Please keep him in your prayers."

Hasan had been in Thailand for advanced medical care over the past seven months. On 10 April, he was briefly moved out of life support to a general ward, but his condition worsened again, and he was placed back on life support on 25 April.
In a subsequent post at 12:17am, Fatema expressed her grief, saying, "Hasan Bhai, wounded in the July Uprising, has just passed away. Since the incident [Hasan being shot], Koli Apa from Empowering Our Fighters remained in close contact with him. A few days ago, she mentioned that Hasan's condition was deteriorating. I had planned to visit him if he returned home. What more can I say!"
Hasan was shot on the right side of his head on 5 August 2024, during a protest at Tiger Pass in Chattogram. The bullet wound resulted in a probable brain injury. While receiving treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital, doctors connected his food and respiratory tracts with tubes and placed him on life support. His condition worsened after an infection spread to his brain, prompting an emergency transfer to Dhaka CMH and later to Thailand.
