State minister Humaiun Kobir has no dual citizenship: Law minister
Asaduzzaman insists the government followed constitutional provisions in appointing him.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir does not hold dual citizenship, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman said today (25 August).
He made the statement while responding to questions from journalists after an event at the Ministry of Social Welfare.
Asked whether Humaiun Kobir had renounced his foreign citizenship, the law minister replied in the affirmative.

"First of all, what is stipulated in the law remains so. Secondly, what this government has done has been done in accordance with the Constitution. There has been no deviation from it. Therefore, whatever we have done has been done constitutionally," he said.
"It is called a 'deeming clause'. When he was sworn in, we did so in accordance with the Constitution," Asaduzzaman added.
Earlier, Kobir faced questions about his alleged British citizenship yesterday (24 August) amid social media discussions over whether he had renounced it before taking office.
"I am Bangladeshi; I don't think there is anybody that will question my Bangladeshism," he told reporters.
Asked about the social media reports, he said, "Who is reporting the news?" and "Why are you so bothered about it?"
