Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir has condemned Adviser Mahfuj Alam's recent remarks claiming that the student wing of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's DU unit is behind the rise of "extremist mobsters".

On a Facebook post today (11 March), Mahfuj said, "It is not possible to have an alliance with misogynistic, secularphobe, anti-democratic and extremist mob masters. And, it is clear that Shibir, especially DU Shibir, is fueling these mobmasters."

He also said strict action will be taken from now on if mob violence is used to fail the mass uprising.

In a joint statement today, Shibir Dhaka University unit President SM Farhad and Secretary Mohiuddin Khan said, "Such false and baseless comments from a responsible person like Mahfuj Alam are very unfortunate.

"The student community does not want a revival of the fascist politics of blaming and division in post-July Bangladesh. At this crucial time of state reform, such a bizarre, fabricated, baseless and purposeful campaign targeting a specific student organization by a responsible person in the government will increase the political division in Bangladesh."

The leaders also said, "The way Mahfuj Alam made a statement targeting the Dhaka University Chhatra Shibir is an expression of his short-sighted political understanding and personal angst. We hope that Mahfuj Alam will withdraw his baseless statement."
